One of my goals for 2016 is to cook at home more. I think I’ve mentioned on the blog before, that I too often end up eating fast food because I forgot to plan what I was going to eat.
I’m not a horrible cook, but I definitely needed more tried and true recipes in my corner. At the beginning of the year, my go-to recipes were spaghetti, cereal and scrambled eggs. (Yes, it’s true. Feel free to mock me for this.)
So, I decided to make the goal fun. I bought a MAMBI Recipe Organizer and told myself I could only add a recipe after I’d made a new-to-me recipe. It’s the perfect way to combine my planning hobby with something I wanted to improve!

Truth be told, the recipe organizer sat empty for several months. (That’s why this post is going up in August — not February!) Even with the promise of paper crafts, I didn’t get excited about this goal for several months.
In June, I reviewed the 2016 goals I’d ambitiously listed in early January. Cooking at home more was one of the goals that I had abandoned, so I headed to Pinterest, printed a recipe and got out my mixing bowls.
Plot twist: I had fun cooking! The recipe was delicious, and I had tons of fun decorating a page in my recipe organizer.
I’m not sure why I put off getting started on this goal for so long, but I’m having so much fun adding new recipes to my organizer. I feel much more confident in the kitchen every time I cook something new. Even if it doesn’t turn out great, I can usually figure out what went wrong so I can fix it.

The photos in this post are a couple of my favorite pages in my recipe organizer. If you’ve been trying to decide if the recipe is worth it, the answer is “YES! Definitely!” Even if you avoid the kitchen more often than not (*ahem* like me), you’ll have fun decorating the pages and growing the collection of recipes you feel confident cooking.
